Social responsibility

Laurin Maritime is dedicating resources to social engagement and human rights. The shipping industry has recently experienced rewarding years and it is natural for Laurin Maritime to sponsor different humanitarian projects and make a positive impact on the world community.

Laurin Maritime is sponsoring an SOS Children's village with the main running expenses for 2008. The Children's village is situated in Manila, the Philippines, which was an obvious choice since Laurin Maritime is a large employer of Filipino crew. The children are mainly orphans or children who cannot be cared for by their biological parents. They are taken care of by their new mothers who form families in the Children's village.

Laurin Maritime is also funding a school in a village called Samborombón in Argentina. Samborombón is well-known to almost every Swede through the Swedish national poet and composer Evert Taube. Laurin Maritime has an extensive trade to Argentina and the idea to sponsor the school was put forward by our Swedish Officers who from Buenos Aires travelled inland aiming to find the famous village. The Officers found that the school lacked heating, books, a working kitchen, and other necessities. Laurin Maritime has sponsored the school for two years now and keep in regular contact with the children and teacher.

Laurin Maritime also makes yearly donations to the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders.
